Caves and gorges were on my doorstep from childhood. The Punkva Caves and the Macocha Abyss were the first trip I remember, and I have walked this landscape in every season ever since — as a boy, later on my own with a camera over my shoulder. I know the gorges when they are full of tourists and when you meet two people in a whole morning.

My work is something else entirely — distributing dental equipment, at a computer, with numbers. Maybe that is exactly why the karst has always been the other thing for me: a place to switch off and walk. And when I was planning a longer stay myself a while back, it frustrated me how scattered the information was — opening hours on one website, timetables on another, admission changing from year to year and nothing in one place.

So I started putting it together here. I am not a guide or a karst expert — I am someone who likes things to make sense and to be able to rely on what is written down. Everything you find here I have either walked myself or checked against official sources, and every article says the date the information is valid for.

I enjoy writing, photography and looking for how things connect — and what I like best is when someone writes to say the plan worked out, or the other way round, points out that I got something wrong. Both are welcome: [email protected].
